im coming back around

It has been a while now! and motherhood, among other things have been keeping me busy. My toddler is no more but now a true little man and he will not tell you any different. He is totally loving school like i never imagined and is always looking for tasks to do on the school breaks. We could also have a GoldenBalls in the making, many doors have been opened for his future and i so enjoy encouraging it. As all of us parents know, we are constantly on the go, but there are times like now, when i get a chance to reflect at how much has happened in the time that has passed. What has been squeezed into these five years, how i have felt low and plenty of highs and how it has all been so worth it. All the time i feel like i am becoming a better person because of the little person i have. This journey so far has been such an eye opener to the many things i need to do for myself and my family. Those things which i was too afraid to even contemplate before are taking place and happening. What i realised is that you can not wait around, you have to take your opportunities as they come. Good things things are bound to happen, and if not, they will certainly work themselves out.

TV or not TV?

While in living rooms across the country, most children cannot wait to watch CBeebies, but it seems it has no place in my home. In all honesty I can say, he is just not interested! The only cartoon or animation which he shows any interest in, is The Simpsons. I was slightly confused at this to begin with, but found what makes him most happy is music. Even during the adverts, he is dancing away! So for now, music television and radio stations are mostly watched, followed by some of my own favourites. I never thought a (nearly) 2 year would be happy watching Deal or No Deal, Eastenders and Countdown!

Family Portrait

Capturing those first special moments of your newborn are priceless. I have so many photos of my son on the day he was born. I just wanted to remember how new and tiny he was, as kids these days grow up so fast. I had already planned to enlarged these photos and put it on the wall in my home. So in the mean time, my brother, who is a talented graphic designer, had done a portrait of my favourite picture.
I absolutely love how it turned out, and now I own a unique piece of art. Why not get one yourself, or as a gift for a friend or family member. For more information, check out his work. http://www.mancinismdesign.net/

Motherhood

How did I end up here then? Well other than the obvious answer, of course. I was always the one saying that children where planned much later in my life, but it seems things have played out differently for me. For as long as I can remember, I was going out every week, finding new clubs in Leicester Square, raving it up and somehow stumbling home. Now, this has been traded for evenings in front of the television most nights, finding local playgroups and hopefully be in bed by 10pm. The transition happened so quickly, yet so smoothly. Motherhood, you never know how it is really going to be, until it happens.
Then it hits you. POW! As many of you mums already know, something amazing happens when you have a child, and automatically, you think about everything so differently. My daily schedule consists of my son and me at home, so now even my weekly trip to Tesco is always truly an event!
Endless housework, ironing, clothes washing and dish washing can be challenging, but soon enough I found a routine as i had to be efficient with my time. Now I am really grateful when my home is looking spick and span and free from Lego for longer than an hour! On another note, it has been nearly 2 years and unlike some, my post-baby body has not been so lucky to snap back, and with all these OK magazines and celebrities, constantly in your face, showcasing how easy it was for them. They have personal trainers available around the clock so it's much easier. Trying to find the energy, let alone the time, is a mission in itself. Around a crying baby, changing nappies, making bottles, entertaining, grocery shopping, early morning starts and late up in the night……….. AND squeezing in exercise 1 hour a day 4 days a week! I’m exhausted even thinking about it. But as time passes and with the summer season rapidly approaching, it has shifted up on my priority list, so those two magic words are back in my vocabulary. Diet and exercise! I am jumping back onto the Nintendo Wii Fit Plus and I’ll let you know of the progress I make towards my goal of being a yummy mummy. Motherhood. You’ve got to love it.
